Just a few short years ago, we had an idea to expand on a product that consumers love; the Vidalia Onion. Unfortunately, it is only available for a few short months every summer. We decided to experiment and grow our onions in a new area that can produce a winter sweet onion for the Southeastern United States. Sunshine Sweets were born.
In a greenhouse, the delicate seeds are carefully sown. Once they are mature enough to be transplanted, they are removed from the greenhouse and planted in a Florida field for the next 100 days. As a short-day sweet onion variety, Sunshine Sweets rival South American onion flavor, have lower freight costs, and have a much longer shelf life.
